Introduction

 

Since 1 January 2010, dangerous goods training for shore-based personnel has been a mandatory requirement. The primary aim of this training is to provide practical guidance and instruction, equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to competently fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with regulatory obligations.

Attending IMDG Code training is essential to ensure compliance with this mandatory requirement and to support safe and effective handling of dangerous goods in the workplace.

Designed for

 

IMDG Code identifies those shore based personnel, who are engaged in the transport of dangerous goods "intended to be transported by sea" that must received the training required by the IMDG Code. 

 

These are those that: 

  • classify dangerous goods and identify Proper Shipping Names of dangerous goods;

  • pack dangerous goods;

  • mark, label or placard dangerous goods;

  • load/unload Cargo Transport Units;

  • prepare transport documents for dangerous goods;

  • offer dangerous goods for transport;

  • accept dangerous goods for transport;

  • handle dangerous goods in transport; 

  • prepare dangerous goods loading/stowage plans;

  • load/unload dangerous goods into/from ships;

  • carry dangerous goods in transport;

  • enforce or survey or inspect for compliance with applicable rules and regulations (e.g. auditors, compliance officer); or

  • are otherwise involved in the transport of dangerous goods as determined by the competent authority

  • Introduction to International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG)

  • Classification of Dangerous Goods, including Packing Group (PG)

  • Packing Provisions

  • Consignment, Labelling & Placarding Provisions

  • Stowage and Segregation Provisions (Including LCL co-loading of DG within the same container)

  • Limited Quantities and Excepted Quantity Provisions

  • Reading the Key Information in Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

  • Basic Understanding of GHS requirements

  • Singapore's Regulations pertaining to the handling, storage and transportation of Dangerous Goods and controlled chemicals
